This morning at secondary school assembly, I was delighted to be able to deliver on our promise to give each of our IB students a free Chromebook fully loaded with the amazing “Google for Education” suite of software. These devices and their accompanying software are going to make a real difference to the learning and progress of our oldest students; indeed the package has become so successful since its launch that 7 out of 8 Ivy League universities are now committed to it. If you have a moment, I recommend you to have a look at https://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/edu/ to find out more.
Our LEGO Innovation Studio is also now up and running and is permanently staffed by a designated TA to ensure that both teachers and students get maximum benefit from the superb educational resources it contains.
We also expect to be giving students their personal logins for “Accelerated Reader” very shortly so that they can access this excellent tool for encouraging, supporting and tracking their progress in reading. We also hope that it will have the benefit of involving you as parents in your child’s reading progress: you will be able to see what progress your child is making, what books they are reading and what other books there are available to them that will suit their areas of interests but, more importantly, be an ideal level of challenge for him or her so that progress is maximized. There will be an information evening shortly to let you know more and to show you how the website works so watch this space for details of that!
Thank you to those of you who have taken the time to remark positively on our new student planners. Huge thanks to Miss Walker, our Key Stage 3 Co-ordinator, for pushing this development through.
You know, I often say that any school that is standing still is losing ground, both to its competitors and to the latest advances in the fast-moving educational world. KISU is not such a school: we are a school that is going places, and fast, and we are so glad that you are along for the journey!
